The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 10/45 interchange. The semi-truck driver was driving southbound on U.S. 45 when he took the wrong ramp.

According to the police, the woman was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The semi-truck driver was not injured in the accident, but he received two traffic citations as a result of the crash. The accident closed down eastbound U.S. 10 for more than six hours while rescue and cleanup crews worked at the scene.

Wisconsin Trucking Accidents

Nearly 500,000 commercial trucking accidents occur every year across the United States. Of those, approximately 5,000 accidents result in a fatality, and an astounding 98 percent of deaths are the driver or passengers in the other car. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, a total of 3,012 semi-truck accidents occurred in Wisconsin in 2012.

Common causes of trucking accidents include faulty brakes and other equipment, driver fatigue, driving under the influence, driving without the proper license or training, distracted driving, and failure to obey traffic laws.

Trucking Accident Compensation

A fully loaded commercial truck can weigh as much as 25 times the typical car. Because of the massive weight disparity and force behind a semi-truck, the results of trucking accidents are often far more destructive in both injuries and deaths. If you or a loved one is involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler, you may be entitled to compensation for your claims. Damages from a trucking accident typically include the following:

  • Present and future medical costs;

  • Rehabilitation and transportation costs;

  • Disability;

  • Scarring and disfigurement;

  • Lost wages;

  • Impaired earning ability;

  • Pain and suffering;

  • Emotional distress;

  • Loss of enjoyment of life;

  • Wrongful death; and

  • Funeral expenses.
